On 4.4.11, Teamsters will fight for one another

Brother Ryan Swartz had a great response on Facebook to someone who didn't want to go to the 4.4.11 rally in Atlanta, where Teamsters will march from the  King Center to the Capitol with Martin Luther King III. We couldn't agree more:

Its a calling. We fight for one another. We fight for the movement. If you dont want to miss work fine. Dont. Those of us who are really concerned with the state of labor relations in this country will fight for you. Unions are under attack and we need all hands on deck. Many want the protection and benefits of unions but dont want join the fight. Luckily there are a whole lot of us out here to pick up the slack.
We're hearing about hundreds of rallies, vigils, teach-ins and marches surrounding the 4.4.11 Day of Action.

Local 117 in Tukwila, Wash., already had the Teamsters truck out supporing rallies at three Eastern Washington locations, including Richland, Connell and Walla Walla this week. Participants ate hot dogs and burgers, signed pledge cards, and vowed to take political action to defend the rights of working familes. On April 8, they'll head out from the local to Olympia to join thousands of working families for a "We Are One -- Put People First" rally.

Here are just a few of the many solidarity events that Teamsters will participate in on Monday:
  • Local 808 will participate at a march and rally for "Jobs, Peace, Equality, and Justice" by People's Organization for Progress in Newark, N.J.
  • Washington, D.C., Teamsters will march at lunchtime from the Treasury Building to the Koch brothers' offices.
  • In Arizona, members of Local 104 will pay their respects to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Cesar Chavez in Central Phoenix.
