It's election day in WI!!

Wisconsin's state Supreme Court race is being closely watched as a referendum on Koch whore Gov. Scott Walker. Incumbent David Prosser, a close Walker ally, is being challenged by JoAnne Kloppenburg, the Teamster-endorsed assistant attorney general. The race is also important because a Kloppenburg win could tip the balance of the seven-member court in favor of anti-Walker justices.

Rally Girl talked to Brother Pat Tappa, secretary-treasurer of Local 344 in Milwaukee.
Members of Local 344 in Milwaukee have been working tirelessly to show Gov. Scott Walker how they really feel.

Aside from attending a solidarity rally on April 4, the anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., rank-and-file members, business agents and local leaders have been educating the public about the state’s recall efforts. Local 344 members have also been encouraging the public to get out and vote in the state’s Supreme Court justice election.

Their work seems to be paying off:

• The state has allowed recall petitions to be at the polls;

• Spring elections generally see a 20 percent turnout, but local officials are expecting at least 40 percent of votes to make their way to the polls today;

• Local members distributed 2,000 recall cards to concerned citizens on April 4 alone; and

• Brochures detailing recall information have been distributed throughout the state.

Says Tappa:
We are taking the opportunity to explain what these attacks on workers mean. A lot of people don’t understand what collective bargaining entails, but we’re taking the time to explain things like seniority rights and just cause. I think when you get down to small examples, people understand it much better.
