1st union contracts canceled under MI financial martial law

Police dispatchers in Pontiac will be the first to lose their union contract and their jobs under Michigan's new emergency financial manager law.

The Detroit Free Press  reports
Pontiac emergency manager Michael Stampfler got the green light Monday from the state treasurer to transfer the city dispatchers' jobs to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, who is to take over police protection in the city by July 1.
Monday's action is the final move toward eliminating the Pontiac Police Department.
The law allows emergency financial managers -- appointed by the governor -- to take over schools and communities, ignore local laws and abrogate union contracts. Gov. Rick Snyder supported the law, ostensibly to help troubled communities. We're a little curious to know how the $1.8 billion corporate tax break he just signed into law helps troubled communities.

Cutting corporate taxes doesn't create jobs. It just makes the rich richer. Snyder is typical of these Governors Gone Wild who say their state is broke and then reward millionaires and corporations with more tax breaks.

Pontiac can't afford its own police department but Snyder's corporate backers can get gigundo tax breaks?

It's time for a tax code that creates jobs instead of rewarding wealth. How about taxing overseas jobs? And while we're at it, how about firing Rick Snyder?
