Brother Thomas G. Nacey, Jr., a 35-year driver from Local 30 in Jeannette, Pa., writes
...Any casual visit to a truckstop would provide you with enough anecdotes concerning foreign national drivers' complete disregard or, in many cases, feigned ignorance, of our laws, customs and even the basic courtesy that barely makes this job livable for many drivers. It is my belief that many foreign national drivers have a conception that they are being used and discriminated against by their employer, dock workers, law enforcement officers and other drivers, therefore, their attitude is one of "I'll even the playing field by stealth, theft, violation of laws, hook-or-crook." ...Sister Patricia Kunkel writes,
...if you are going go allow the drivers and trucks access, then why did we put on the show to spend all the money to put up a wall and pay some poor schmucks to risk their lives every time they come to work?Brother Edward Rolland, a Teamster truck driver just called back from layoff after a year:
We need to keep the few jobs we have left. Lots of our factories moved there. Didn't they get enough of our work already. This is not right for the American people!
