Columbus, Ohio, today. |
Hundreds of Teamsters joined tens of thousands protesting anti-worker legislation today at statehouses in Ohio in Wisconsin. In Columbus, President Jim Hoffa and International Vice President Al Mixon led a parade of red-clad Teamsters toward the Statehouse as they beat on drums and shouted, "This is what democracy looks like!" and "No justice! No peace!" Teamsters all over the country wore red today to show solidarity with their brothers and sisters in Ohio and Wisconsin.
Reports @ verbsandnouns:
Estimates put us now at 25,000. Teachers. Firefighters. Cops. Teamsters. Standing and screaming together. The energy is beautifuland LCYD_OH
RT @odpnextgen: Glad that many young, non-union workers are rallying in support @ the Ohio Statehouse. Unions help us all. #standupohio #SB5.Hoffa and Brother Fred Crow addressed the crowd. We're still waiting to see the video of what they said, but we hear both were excellent.
You can hear Hoffa in a radio interview with Thom Hartmann here.
Brother Steve Nelson from Local 200 is in Madison right now, awaiting a speech by
Approx 20,000 and growing with 100 teamsters and 1.4 million teamsters behind us in spirit. Walker is scheduled to release his budget around 4pm. I'm sure the crowd will continue to grow!...We understand the crowd noise is deafening as the time for Walker's speech approaches. Thousands are chanting "RECALL" and "RESIGN."
Brother Nelson sends us these photos from Madison tooday to let us know that our cause is not just a union cause, it's the middle-class cause.
Stay tuned.
