It adopts the neediest families in areas and adopts them for the holiday season. The family gives me a list of specifics, and I make a wishlist at walmart.com, target.com, or kmart.com. Each family gets clothes, shoes, and new bedding, homemade cookies, stockings, and cards. Each child gets toys. If the family needs it, they also receive dishes, pots & pans, towels, cookers, etc.As Truckers Voice reminds us, "It's good for the heart."
Churches and organizations send me the families so we can ensure the need is legit. The "Santas" then purchase the items from the wishlist, and outright adopt the family. You can ship directly from site to their home for their shipping address is included in the information on the wishlist, or you can purchase, wrap, and have me provide the mailing information. ... This year has started off with a bang. We recently adopted a cerebral palsy facility in Frederick, MD on top of the other almost 20 families. I'm now having to find more volunteers so that when more families come in, they won't have to be turned down.
She gives us further info on how to volunteer:
If someone is wanting to do any of the following:
1. adopt a familyHere's the contact info:
2. be on clean-up crew
3. help with providing stocking stuffers/stockings
4. send Christmas cards
they can email me at any time. Clean up crew will sit for a few months before needed. If you adopt a family, I'll send you a wishlist asap, and divide you with at least one other driver so that it's more cost effective. They can then purchase in the store, wrap and ship/deliver in person, or purchase online and ship. Christmas card lists won't be sent out till October, and stocking supplies is always needed. If you have more questions, please feel free to email me back or to call.
