Teamsters mourn loss of Heather Terry, who died in Joplin tornado

Sister Heather Leigh Terry, who perished in the Joplin tornado, will be laid to rest today.

Heather was practically a newlywed, having married Duane Terry in March last year. She will be greatly missed by her co-workers at LaBarge Industries, an electronics manufacturing company.

"She was part of our family at LaBarge," wrote June Warren in the funeral home's guest book. "I am so sad 'cause I thought the world of Heather and she always could make me laugh ... We will never forget you, Heather."

Teamster General President Jim Hoffa said union members' hearts and prayers go out to the Baum and Terry families and other Local 823 families. “Teamsters everywhere mourn the loss of our sister Heather Terry.”

She was 36, born in Joplin and lived there all her life. Her mother, Vicky Baum, works at LaBarge and is a member of Local 823, as was Heather. Her grandmother worked at LaBarge as well. Heather's obituary can be found here.

Heather is survived by her husband; her mother; her father, Rex Baum; her sister, Erin Baum-Smith; two nieces, Bayleigh Smith and Ashleigh Smith and her maternal grandmother, Juanita Channel.

Contributions in memory of Heather may be made to the Heather Terry Memorial Fund to help her family in reestablishing their homes.
