Yay! Bus workers victorious over condescending jerk lawyer

Durham school bus workers who want to be Teamsters.
A sweet victory, indeed. Durham school bus workers who want to become Teamsters won their National Labor Relations Board case against lawyer Jim Foster.

During an NLRB hearing in January, Durham's HR manager was asked if there were certain hiring requirements for the company. Foster, the company's lawyer, blurted out,

“You mean, other than being a breathing human being?”

The hearing was held because Durham wanted to make it harder for its workers to be represented by the Teamsters. The company wanted the NLRB to rule that three California yards (Santa Ana, Irvine and Laguna Beach) should have separate union representation elections.

Teamster Magazine reports
...the decision is in and the Board has ruled that the workers will have their Teamster election as one united group. The workers have shown impressive support for forming a union with the Teamsters and they are looking forward to voting soon.
Meanwhile, Foster's comment lives on in infamy -- and in a flier.

The Durham organizing campaign in California is part of the Teamsters' Drive Up Standards efforts for school bus workers. Across the country in Lincoln Park, N.J., 96 First Student drivers, attendants and mechanics have filed for an election to join the Teamsters.

Good luck to all of you!
