What's dumber than opening the border to Mexican trucks?

Here's a great idea:  Let's make it easier for violent drug gangs to cross the Mexican border into Texas. Why not? No murderers or drug dealers would ever dream of doing anything bad in Texas or California or Arizona. Besides, opening the border will create good jobs for Americans and help our economy.

Is there anyone on the planet who believes that? Oh wait, yes there is: The U.S. Department of Transportation. Today they published an official notice in the Federal Register of their intent to open the border to a WAR ZONE. We have until May 13 to bombard them with comments about why this is possibly the dumbest thing the U.S. government could do right now.

Here's the link.  Click on it, and submit your comment.
And just as a reminder of how bad things are in Mexico, Borderland Beat tells us:
The most dangerous city in Mexico wrapped up another bloody weekend with 39 killings between Friday and Monday, including the murders of three police officers, the Chihuahua state prosecutor's office in Ciudad Juarez said Tuesday.

In one of the most high-profile homicides, Ismael Sergio Apodaca, coordinator of the Police Station "Chihuahua," was executed on Friday. Hours earlier, a municipal official was attacked and taken to the hospital in serious condition, the state prosecutor's office told CNN. In all, eight people were killed that day.

On Saturday, another 16 people were killed, including six victims shot dead at a workshop and another four killed in front of a garage. The victims, all male, were between 20 and 30 years old.
And just as a reminder that there's a WAR going on in Mexico, here's another tidbit from Borderland Beat:
Municipal police in Mexicali, supported by the Mexican Army, captured two men Monday night after retrieving two duffel bags full of military style equipment that had been tossed over the border fence separating this city from the U.S. side of the border....The material in the duffel bags were identified as 194 inert practice grenades, 192 grenade fuses, 34 recievers for various types of weapons, 5 butt stocks for AR-15/M-16 type weapons and 8 bullet proof vests...Practice grenades can be re-armed and converted into live grenades...
