The two men are sitting next to each other in a congressional hearing room. Walker blathered about the wonderful things he's done for Wisconsin's business climate (i.e., trying to turn it into Bangladesh).
Shumlin apparently couldn't stand listening to Walker's sanctimonious claims that he's trying to protect Wisconsin's middle class. He finally burst out:
We all have similar challenges as governors. …What are we arguing about?…If you want to go after collective bargaining, which I believe built this country...just go out and say it. If you want to balance your budget, you bring people in, you talk to them, you have a dialogue about it.
When you take an outright assault on a basic principle in democratic society, which is collective bargaining… that’s a different debate...
If you want to go after collective bargaining, just say it, "We’re bringing you on." Let’s be honest about this.
