Sign a Petition. Tell the Catfood Commission Not To Cut Social Security

The secrecy-shrouded Deficit Reduction Commission -- aka the Catfood Commission -- has hinted that it will recommend that Congress cut Social Security benefits. This is not something that most Americans, including the Teamsters, think should happen.

Social Security did not cause the federal deficit, and its benefits should not be cut to reduce the deficit.

Try telling that to the Peterson Foundation, which today launched a $20 million advertising campaign that aims ultimately to dismantle the benefits program. The Peterson Foundation was founded by hedge fund billionaire Pete Peterson, who has for years made no secret of his hatred for Social Security.

Unpopular events are usually scheduled after elections, and this is no exception. The Catfood Commission plans to announce its recommendations on Dec. 1.

You can sign a petition here to let the commission know you oppose cutting Social Security. The petition is sponsored by the Strengthen Social Security coalition.
